Let there be LIGHTS!

I'm going to be kicking myself for a long time for missing out on the Owl City concert. Not only because I missed Adam Young in the flesh but because I missed LIGHTS, who I am obsessed with now.

She may look like Avril but she can kick your ass with a synthesizer six ways to Sunday. The comic motif is really awesome too.

This was like when I talked through Tegan and Sara who opened for the Killers in San Diego before I liked them. ...I am such a tool sometimes.

Party in the I-N-G...lewood.

Though I may lament, sometimes I really love my job.

Like today, when I got to see Miley Cyrus perform a dress rehearsal for her upcoming concert tour.

Basically, it was a private performance for me and like 40 other people. FRONT ROW.

Two words: "Fully awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeee."

Music of the Night

I don't know if I've ever liked one artist as consistently as I like Lily Allen. All of her songs are insanely catchy and I could listen to her curse me out in the sweetest way all day (with songs like "Fuc* You").

I was lucky enough to finally catch her in the states and she does NOT disappoint. Especially when she busted out Womanizer at the end of her act. So freakin' awesome.

Music is My Hot Hot Sex.

So I've decided that my dream job would be to direct music videos.

How cool is it that you can create a great piece of art and totally ignore normal film conventions like having a plot?

Plus, they just generally look a lot better.

Francis Lawrence is my idol!

Never Trust a Ho.

This may be the best video ever.

I love this effin' song!

So Bittersweet...

Wow, it's been forever and a day since I posted.

I guess my last post doesn't actually count as being legit either since it was just a "HAH!" in-your-face regarding the fact that I totally called out the awesomeness of Katy Perry's "Hot N' Cold" four months ago (*congratulatory self pat-on-the-back*).

Man, I so loved that song and now it's all over the effin' radio and the source of some turmoil in my work life as well. I wanted to dislike it for all of those reasons but then I saw the music video and damn, it's just too good.

I doubt lightening will strike twice, but my new obsession is Lenka, whose album I have now listened to probably over 10 times in the last 2 weeks. She's way more indie than Katy (and also lacks the endorsement of Madonna), but man do I love her cute-yet-croony sound.

Whoever said that pop music isn't original is a big fat liar. When a song works, it just works, and no matter how hard you try to find a decent substitute or similar sound, it's just not the same. Just trust me on this.

On another note, I can't believe that 2008 is almost over. I so failed all of my half-year resolutions and am more scattered than ever probably, but have been indulging so much that I failed to notice any of this. Ignorance is temporary bliss.

As someone who is usually adverse to change, I'm actually excited for 2009.

Let's end this with a bang.

Pop Rocks

My favorite song right now is "Hot N' Cold" by Katy Perry.

I totally dig her debut album "One of the Boys" right now. Following the paved road of Lily Allen, she is pop and rock personified, but with the slight edge of Amy Winehouse (try listening to "I Kissed a Girl" and "Ur So Gay").

She also steals Allen's style and prances around in absurd and retro glamour girl outfits. Move over Ashlee and Avril...

Note: Is it just me of is she a dead ringer for Robin Tunney?

Girl Power!

I've been in a reflective mood lately and I guess that's transcended to my music because I've been listening to a bunch of mopey chick music.

Currently:

Kate Voegele
Missy Higgins
Tristan Prettyman
Priscilla Ahn
Duffy
Katy Perry
Alanis Morrisette
Aimee Mann
Charlotte Sometimes
Kate Nash

I don't know why I'm so into this lyrical stuff right now. I think it's mostly because I see it used on TV so well.

Every so often I get annoyed at Grey's, but then they pull something like that and it just gets to me.

Note: I highly rec'd the entire albums of Priscilla Ahn, Katy Perry, and Charlotte Sometimes. Soooo good.

The Cracks in Our Foundation

Since, I believe in educating the masses, I will let you in on a little secret:

Sake + Tequila + Vodka + Whiskey do not mix.

I found this out the hard way at a Kate Nash concert last night. Yes, Kate Nash.

I would like to tell you how good she was in concert, but honestly, I don't really remember. Nor do I remember unloading all over the table at Denny's afterwards. Or losing my driver's license.

Just another Wednesday.

Note: Katsuya is so LA it is ridiculous. Paparazzi outside and all. Dave Navarro sat right next to us. Awesome.

It's Good to be ALIVE.

My current state is reminiscent of Fall 2000. I have to say, this song is a step up in morbidity from "It's Over Now" by Neve or "Deathly" by Aimee Mann. Baby steps....

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Look at me
Look at me
Hands in the air like it's good to be, ALIVE
And I'm a famous rapper
Even when the paths are all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And I'm Proud to be an American
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want cause, look:

I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome

And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone

Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be, ALIVE
In such a small world
I'm all curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine sixty four
Miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
And I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers, shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance

Cause I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone

And I can split the atom of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule

Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
ALIVE and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let'em all die in exasperation
Have'em all grilled leavin lacerations
Have'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like'em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command

Cause I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite

And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope

And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Music to My Ears

I guess I am a sucker for the Cyrus family because I totally love "Shake It" by the Metro Station, a band which happens to be led by Miley's older brother Trace.

It's probably the cutest pop rock song since "Here" by Hellogoodbye, and with the whole shake motif is reminiscent of early Rooney as well.

This makes me happy since I've been waiting for another group like AAR to come around (since Cute is What We Aim For is taking their sweet time on another album). Hopefully the rest of their album is as consistently good.

It's been quite an awesome year of music as there have been several songs that I really love. And by love, I mean I get giddy when it comes on the radio and blast it at about 50% of full volume.

To name a few:

"Shake It" - Metro Station
"See You Again" - Miley Cyrus
"Flashing Lights" - Kanye West
"Love in this Club" - Usher
"Superstar" - Lupe Fiasco
"Take a Bow" - Rihanna
"Buzzin'" - Shwayze feat. Cisco Adler

And it's only April!

Note: Picked up Marie Digby's album at her concert at the Troubadour last night. Good stufffffffffff...

Bang Bang Baby Shot Me in the Heart...

I never thought that I would listen to anything made my Cisco Adler, let alone love it. But here I am, obsessed with "Buzzin'" and his 22 year old little protege, Shwayze.

I've now listened to a couple of Shwayze's other tracks and they all pretty much kick ass. It's kind of like if Jack Johnson and Lupe Fiasco mated and created this awesome laid back West Coast style of hip-hop. All I want to do it lounge on the beach when I hear it.

The video is also so ridiculously bad that I love it.

I mean where else can you find a Colonel Angus motion in a music video...TWICE!

A Walk in the Park

Yesterday I attended the Linkin Park concert at the Staples Center.

I have to admit I was pretty hesistant about going. For one, Linkin Park is about the eschelon of my limit for rock music. I am totally not into heavy metal or hard rock (as my penchant for Miley Cyrus may tell you). I was also scared of all of the devil worshipping freaks that might be there who would sense my fear and use me as their midnight sacrificial lamb.

Yeah, totally not that type of scene. Sure, there were one or two tattooed out people, but there were also kids running around the place too. I saw people from all over the place there, and there was only one thing they all had in common.

SHUT UP.

The place lit up when Linkin Park closed with "One Step Closer" after two encores. I've never seen so many people delighted from being to told to "SHUT UP" in my entire life.

I have to say that they were one of the best groups I've seen live, especially for rock. They sound immaculate, and unlike other rock concerts, Staples knows how to balance the right/left channel so that the singing isn't drowned out by the music. I barely listened to the new album before I went, but I ended up being able to sing along with about 80% of the show. This group has an insane amount of singles out.

Note: The drummer of the group is extremely cute. That definitely doesn't hurt.

Guitar Hero-ine

Damn I wished I learned how to play the guitar.

All those years I wasted learning how to play the trumpet poorly, could have been spent learning how to suck at the guitar instead. ...And that would have been much cooler.

I've always kind of wanted to learn it, but after realizing in my stupid Comm 1 class that the learning curve of an adult is only slightly higher than that of a Neanderthal I became apathetic pretty quickly.

But now I see all these damn girls who can play the guitar and I'm totally jealous!

Don't you want to be this!?

And by this, I mean hot and blonde as well.

Ice Cream Sundae with a Turd on Top

I never fell into the whole Alicia Keys thing, but after last nights Grammy's performance I am a believer.

The remix she did with her hit (and massively overplayed) song "No One" was brilliant. Maybe it was the Gospel background, the Timbaland like backbeat, the bevvy of classical violins, or just the familiarity of a chord from U2's "With or Without You," but I was ready to scream "Sing it, Sister!" at the top of my lungs.

Then John Mayer stepped into the picture.

WHY...............WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY John Mayer. Why ruin something that was so damn near perfect with his down syndrome ass.

I actually don't really hate his music ("Your Body is a Wonderland" is too damn cute not to love), but John Mayer himself (or his public persona) totally grosses me out. Plus, he didn't even come out and really sing, he just played a guitar riff. ANYONE can play a guitar riff. Anyone but John Mayer.

Nevertheless, her performance is still pretty amazing (minus the fake piano playing in the middle of the song).

"Pierces" My Heart

Sigh........................................

We'd be so less fragile
If we're made from metal
And our hearts from iron
And our minds from steel
And if we built an army
Full of tender bodies
Could we love each other
Would we strive to feel

And you want three wishes
One to fly the heavens
One to swim like fishes
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

You say you want to know her like a lover
And undo her damage, she'll be new again
Soon you'll find that if you try to save her
It renews her anger
You will never win

And you want three wishes
You want never bitter
And all delicious
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

You want three wishes
One to fly the heavens
One to swim like fishes
You want never bitter
And all delicious
And a clean conscience
And all it's blisses
You want one true lover with a thousand kisses
You want soft and gentle and never vicious
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

BTW, last week's Gossip Girl was AMAZING. If the above wasn't enough...

Spice Up Your Life!

And so it ends.

I waited so long to comment because I wanted to write a long luxorious review of the concert and how great the girls still are as performers. But honestly, I'm not that eloquent and word can't really describe the visual smorgasboard of what I got to experience. Sooooo, I bid adieu to the fearsome fivesome and thank them for the years of aural pleasure that they have bestowed upon me.

Girl power!

Yo! I'll Tell You What I Want...

what I really really want...

...is for it to be Friday. Because on Friday I get to go and see the Spice Girls Reunion concert tour!!! I totally forgot how much I loved them until I started listening to their old CDs and then the euphoria just came rushing back. I also read a positive review of their opening show, in Vancouver I believe, saying how awesome their performance was so now I really can't wait! Add to that the little snippet on the VS Fashion Show yesterday (though, I think they were lip syncing..) and the hype-o-meter is about to explode!

Whoo-hoo, two more days! Re-live the good times with me:
